ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Forty years old but feeling young... or rather, feeling them, but turning them into fuel rather than nostalgia. Because when W.A.S.P. arrives in Milan to celebrate the 40th Anniversary Tour, doubt is in the air: will it be the usual amarcord catwalk or is there still poison in the bite? Spoilers: the poison is there. And it still burns. Highly anticipated concert after two postponements. No support group: brave and, let's face it, arrogant choice at the right point. An evening entirely dedicated to the W.A.S.P. cult, without appetizers or detours. The lights dim, the intro brings to mind the aesthetics of their historic Black Metal Theatre, and in an instant the atmosphere transforms: we are no longer in a rock club, but in a dimension where shock rock and metal liturgy merge in a single red shadow. There's no point beating around the bush: everyone wanted to see Blackie Lawless. And yes, the cross, the dais, the scenic throne - call it what you want - are there and he is in great shape. The scenography, between crosses and screens, still works. The video projections (including original video clips) amplify the songs, including period material and graphic suggestions that remind everyone why W.A.S.P. scared the good families of the ’80s. And let's face it: In an era where “rebel rock” often finds itself on TikTok, seeing Blackie still spitting poison off that stage is almost a blessing. The Live Club is packed and hot. From the first row to the back of the room you can perceive a participatory and noisy audience: a unique and compact choir that accompanied the entire concert. There is no need for warming-ups: from the first song you can tell that the evening will be intense. The Italian public doesn't just sing, they celebrate. Hands raised, choruses shouted unsparingly, and that mix of enthusiasm and devotion that only bands with history can generate. The show begins with ‘’I Wanna Be Somebody’’ immediately warming up the atmosphere; Blackie was quick to joke about the choice to start with their most successful song and then continue with the entire debut album piece by piece strictly in order and the audience accompanied every single song with their voices. They then continued the second part of the show by making medleys with pieces that absolutely could not be missing such as ‘’I Don't Need No Doctor’’ and ‘’Scream Until You Like It’’. The band then finished the show with two of metal's most iconic pieces, ‘’Wild Child’’ and ‘’Blind In Texas’’, setting the stage on fire as only they can, the result? A lot of wild fans, who didn't miss a single note. Blackie's voice holds: the timbre is there, the theatricality too and the vocal tracks were there but not invasive ...they serve more as reinforcement and not crutch, Blackie was in sensational form, and anyone expecting a tired, weighted frontman was disappointed. Applause must also be given to the rest of the lineup (made up of: Doug Blair on guitar, Mike Duda on bass and Aquiles Priester on drums) who were able to hold their own throughout the concert. Well what can I say... we d on't know what the future of metal holds for us, but one thing is certain: as long as Blackie Lawless takes to the stage there will be no nostalgia, just a living celebration, still worthy of bowing before the altar.
