Line up: Michael Sweet - lead vocals, lead & rhythm guitar, Robert Sweet - drums & percussion, Oz Fox - lead and rhythm guitar, vocals, Perry Richardson - bass, vocals
Tracklisting: Transgressor, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Same Old Story, Heart & Soul, Near, Out, Up & In, Rise To The Call, The Way, The Truth, The Life, No Rest For Wicked, Till Death Do Us Part, Ashes To Ashes

It was back in 1984 when an ellepi entitled "The Yellow and Black Attack" appeared in the music world, born from the fervent minds of the brothers Michael and Robert Sweet, of Orange County - California. The band had already formed since 1982 and with that record they decreed their start that led them to be the Kings of Christian Metal worldwide. Oh yes .... and above all it makes you enjoy seeing these gentlemen who 37 years later are still in vogue, beautiful and lively and above all not short of ideas indeed, still able to churn out authentic songs and albums of high technical-quality level such as the present here "The Final Battle". Among other things, unlike distinguished colleagues of musical genre and age, Michael Sweet and companions did not try to soften the sound, to aim for a more commercial, more radio and mainstream sound ... no no far from it, "The Final Battle" is a candidate as one of the heaviest records born from "Stryper house" !! Merit of an innate compositional vein, of an ensemble that - with the exception of the bass player - is consolidated with the same line up of the beginning, of a vocalist who does not feel the passing of the years at all and uses his vocal cords as in twenty years and a very sharp guitar work that chisels killer riffs in pure heavy metal style. In the face of those who say that Christian rock is soft; here we start with “Transgressor” a very fast up tempo and the disc settles on a powerful and aggressive “shot”. You can hear it with joy in the anthemic ride "Rise to The Call", in the disruptive "Ashes To Ashes", in the rhythmic and rocky "See No Evil" and "No Rest For Wicked" in short, there is no peace for your souls (and speaking of Stryper it is almost a contradiction ... hehe) and, beware, there is no ballad! No. The only song slightly more inclined to melody and slower as an arrangement is “Near” which, however, is not to be considered a ballad but an excellent rock song with superfine character and arrangement. If you want a record that really shakes you, “The Final Battle” is made for you!
Line up: Erik Grönwall – vocal, Rachel Bolan – bass, Dave ‘The Snake’ Sabo - guitar, backing vocals, Scotti Hill - guitar, backing vocals, Rob Hammersmith - drums
Tracklist: Hell Or High Water, The Gang’s All Here, Not Dead Yet, Time Bomb, Resurrected, Nowhere Fast, When The Lights Come On, Tear It Down, October’s Song, World’s On Fire
When The Lights Come On”. Ma ovvio, con un altro veloce up tempo granitico e roccioso com'è “World’s On Fire“. Fine. Acquisto obbligato!

Skid were, still are and always will be one of the most "badass" bands of the street metal scene (and not only !!!), always idolized by millions of fans and authors of real masterpieces with the famous frontman on the voice Sebastian Bach. But, despite splits, divorces, brecks and a thousand vicissitudes that have forced the New Jersey combo to even prolonged stops, they have never, and precise NEVER, been proponents of dull or bite-free albums. We remember the era of the late Solinger, where our people had winked - even - at a certain alternative rock, above all the album "ThickSkin" of 2003, always and in any case a full length of high caliber and full of anger and power. Now, it was since 2006 that ours hadn't released an album - if we exclude some EPs and collections - and therefore this brand new "The Gang's All Here" with the voice of the -new- singer Erik Grönwall (ex H.E.A.T) bursts into the whole his vehemence, in all his heavy power, punk fury and street metal attitude that seems to have returned to the levels of “Slave To The Grind” and hits us straight like a heavyweight punch in the ring! I really believe, without fear of unbalancing myself, that Bolan and his associates could not have done better and the record in question is absolutely a candidate among the top 10 albums listened to so far for this 2022. The record starts with an authentic kick in the balls entitled “Hell Or High Water ”and continues with the fierce title track in pure and overwhelming street metal style. “Not Dead Yet” takes no prisoners, a fast and vitriolic up tempo where -always- the verve and uvula of the good vocalist stands out; a sort of Seb Bach "pissed" with the "look" of the good (Rip) Solinger but, beware, with his own originality. Here comes the more rhythmic "Time Bomb" street rock soooooo song which then makes way for the next "Resurrected" where the rhythm picks up. However, I want to clarify that the pace is ultimately always very high, the disc sounds like a freight train launched at a thousand km per hour! "Nowhere Fast" does nothing but remark what has just been written while hard rock tinged with street rock / glamor peeks out in the pulsating and pandering "When The Lights Come On". Absolutely worth framing piece! We are at the moment of the single released to "launch" the disc, "Tear It Down", another song that will make you dance in your little room at home making "hair guitar" with the tennis recchetta! We are almost at the end and here is the ballad "October's Song", a song that is certainly valid even if too long (over seven minutes) which, however, does not manage to conquer me completely ... but anyway ... compared to the singles - ballad of the past does not hold up the comparison. And how could an album like this end? But of course, with another fast, granite and rocky up tempo like "World's On Fire". End. I have nothing else to add but applause to the evergreen artistic vein of the band, to the commendable guitar work that chisels killer riffs and to the prodigious rhythm section. Skid Row are still around and I think their throne is far from being usurped. Purchase required!

Line up: Orianthi Panagaris - vocals, guitars, Jacob Bunton - bass, guitar, keyboards, Piano, violin, backing vocals, Kyle Cunningham - drums
Tracklisting: Illuminate (Part I), Light It Up, Fire Together, Where Did Your Heart Go, Red Light, Void, Burning, Living Is Like Dying Without You, Witches & The Devil, Getting To Me, Illuminate (Part Ii)
Vero e proprio must del disco. Si ritorna verso un sempre lodevole pop rock con 'Burning' per poi cullarci nell'altra ballad acustica 'Living Is Like Dying Without You'.

I was looking forward to it. I must admit that I discovered this fantastic artist and guitar woman "too late", but there is always time to fix it. I met her well with the excellent penultimate studio album "O" of 2020 and a few months ago I had the opportunity to give her a nice interview (you can read it in our journalist-interview section of the site, editor's note) in which she told us a little about his history and his way of being a musician. Among other things, it was the period of her "Live" album released this summer (highly recommended, read the review in the review section, editor's note) but everything was ready to wait for her with this brand new "Rock Candy". And she did not disappoint expectations, quite the contrary. An album that mixes rock, hard, blues, pop and alternative rock in a combination of exceptional sounds and a mastery in the guitar sound of a true ax man !!!! On the other hand, you will all know her palmares, and having been the guitarist of Michael Jackson, Santana, Prince, Eric Clapton (just to name a few "simple" nicknames, ed.) Says a lot about the skills of our blonde guitarist. The album starts well with an instrumental intro 'Illuminate (part I)', ethereal in its gait and engaging that prepares us for the hit 'Light It Up', authentic killer song, classic anthem rock with pulsating guitar and engaging rhythm. Real must of the disc. It continues with the lighter 'Fire Together' which winks at some pop rock from the charts and does it with great class to then lead us to the slow 'Where Did Your Heart Go' well arranged and with the right pathos. But be careful, Miss Panagaris did not slow down the pace indeed, with 'Red Light' she spits out a full-bodied and fast rock that alternates more calm moments with almost “punk” outbursts. Here comes the time for the alternative sound of 'Void'; a song based on a saturated and compressed guitar work that is always opposed to the persuasive voice of our musician. Excellent work by the band, above all Jacob Bunton (multi instrumentalist and also producer of the album, ed.) Who accompanies the always precious and insightful solos of Orianthi and creates the right mood for the whole album. We return to an always praiseworthy pop rock with 'Burning' and then lull us into the other acoustic ballad 'Living Is Like Dying Without You'. But still the eclectic Orianthi does not want to give way to too much melody and returns to rock with the aggressive 'Witches & The Devil', a rhythmic song based on a first-rate guitar sound. We are on the penultimate track, 'Getting To Me', which boasts a radio rock at times but with a definitely 'hard' riffing. This album closes with the “reprise” of the intro, 'Illuminate (part II) obviously instrumental which highlights the stylistic and technical skills of our artist. Honestly, I can't find a single flaw in this “Rock Candy” and I calmly nominate it among the best releases of this 2022. Disc to have absolutely !!!
Line up: Gregory Lynn Hall- vocals, Tristan Avakian - guitars, Alessandro del Vecchio - bass guitar, keyboards, Nicholas Papapicco - drums
Trackslist: Burn for Love, I will be stronger, Higher, In a different world, Another night, another fight, Phoenix, Two ships, Losing me, Do or Die, The Pains of yesterday, Ain't no end in sight
Nikki
