Live review: "The Dead Daisies" @ Fabrique, Milano, 02-07-2022

Durante il loro tour europeo i Dead Daisies hanno fatto tappa nella sala da concerti del Fabrique di Milano per il loro live. Sono arrivato lì un po' tardi quindi -purtroppo- non sono riuscito a vedere la band di supporto , i Sadness. Ho comprato una canotta (camicia) dei Dead Daisies e un braccialetto ben cucito per mostrare il mio apprezzamento per la band. Ho anche preso una birra Heineken incredibilmente costosa dal bar (8 euro!) e con il pass del "Cathouse Italy" al collo (ringraziamo il tour manager e KezzMe! LTD – Music Service Agency per la gentilezza dimostrata), sono stato ammesso nello spazio proprio davanti al palco.
Il palco era molto spartano, quindi sul lato sinistro potevo vedere gli amplificatori per chitarra Vintage Marshall JMP e Freeman di Doug Aldrich, oltre al leggendario bass rig Orange di Glenn.
Intorno alle 21.00 le luci si sono spente ed i Daisies sono saliti sul palco, iniziando con la prima canzone "Long way to go". La folla si è subito emozionata e sembrava apprezzare ogni canzone. Tuttavia ho subito notato che David Lowy, il fondatore e secondo chitarrista era scomparso - era in ospedale per un trattamento urgente, come ha spiegato il bassista/cantante Glenn Hughes durante lo spettacolo. Tuttavia la band è stata abbastanza professionale da compensarlo e ha suonato come ugualmente bene sopperendo la mancanza.
"Long way to go" è stata quindi la prima canzone tratta dal prossimo album “Radiance”, ed è stata eseguita molto bene, la voce di Glenn ha davvero preso a “calci tutti”. Questa energia l'abbiamo provata anche quando la band ha suonato il classico "Mistreaded" dei Deep Purple, è stato davvero bello ascoltarlo, anche se una corda della chitarra Dougs si è rotta durante quella canzone. Tuttavia la band era davvero di buon umore e ha cercato di intrattenere bene i circa 250 fans che quella sera erano arrivati al club. Un assolo di batteria altamente energico è stato presentato nel mezzo dello spettacolo, e il batterista Tichy stava suonando la batteria in modo così potente che le sue bacchette hanno iniziato a volare sul palco – impressionante!
In un secondo momento la band ha presentato "Shine on", la loro seconda nuova canzone dall'album, una canzone rock molto energica, ma la risposta del pubblico, dal mio punto di vista, è stata un po' debole. Con solo pochi annunci tra le canzoni, i Daisies hanno terminato il set con "Holy Ground", ma sono tornati rapidamente sul palco per suonare i loro bis, "Midnight Moses" e un altro classico dei Deep Purple, "Burn", con una performance eccezionale di Glenn Hughes. Ragazzi, quest'uomo ha 70 anni ed ha ancora una voce pazzesca! Con un applauso pesante e la promessa "Torneremo in Italia", la band ha lasciato il palco e, personalmente, ho visto un sacco di persone sorridenti e felici tra la folla.

Concert Review "The Dead Daisies", Milano, 2022-07-02

During their European tour the Dead Daises stopped in Milans' Le Fabrique concert hall for a show.I got there a little late so - unfortunately - I didn't get to see the support band, Sadness. I just quickly bought a Dead Daises Tank Top (Shirt) and a nicely stitched wristband to show my appreciation for the band. Also grabbed a shockingly expensive Heineken beer from the bar (8 Euros!) and with the cool "Cathouse Italy" pass around the neck (we thank the tour manager and KezzMe! LTD - Music Service Agency for the kindness shown) I was admitted to enter the space right in front of the stage.

The stage itself was only sparesly decorated, so on the left side I could see Doug Aldrich's Vintage Marshall JMP and Freeman guitar amps, as well as Glenns legendary Orange bass rig. Around 9pm the lights went dark and the Daisies entered the stage, starting off with the first song "Long way to go". The crowd quickly became excited and seemed to enjoy every song. However I quickly noticed that David Lowy, the founder and 2nd guitar player was missing - he was in hospital for an urgent treatment, as bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes explained during the show. However the band was professional enough to compensate him, and played as like they always were a trio. Track #5 was then the first song (and the title song) from the upcoming album Radiance, which was performed very well, and Glenns vocals really kicked. 
This also is true when the band played the classic Deep Purple "Mistreated", was really great to hear it, even though one string broke on Dougs guitar during that song. Nevertheless the band was really in good mood and tried to well entertain the around 250 supporters, who made it to the club this evening. A highly energetic drum solo was presented in the middle of the show, and drummer Tichy was hitting the drums so powerful, that his drum sticks started flying around the stage - impressive!

At a later time the band presented "Shine on", their second new song from the album, a very energetic rock song, but the audiences response was a bit weak from my point of view. With only few announcements between the songs, the Daisies finshed the set with "Holy Ground" , but quickly came back to the stage to play their encores, "Midnight Moses" and the another Deep Purple Classic, "Burn", with an outstanding vocals performance from Glenn Hughes. Guys, this man is 70 years and he still got it!
Under heavy applause and the promise "We will come back to Italy", the band left the stage and I saw a lot of people happily smiling in the crowd.
