(Paul).

(Steph). Siamo cresciuti ispirandoci alle band classiche della scena come My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, Thrice, Fall Out Boy e Jimmy Eat World.

(Paul).

(Paul). L'Irlanda ha alcuni grandi artisti emo/pop-punk/alt come Crim, Light Grey e Layen_, quindi dovreste assolutamente ascoltarli!

Una domanda particolare. Riuscireste a identificarvi come artisti usando un solo aggettivo e spiegare perché?
(Paul).

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

1) You are a duo of siblings from Ireland and you have already recorded other studio works. However, for the Italian fans, could you introduce yourselves? How were you born and how did the Greywind project develop?

We’re siblings from a town in the south of Ireland called Killarney. Songwriting has always been incredibly therapeutic for us and has helped us through so many difficult moments in our lives. Before we started Greywind our uncle took his own life and that significantly changed me and my sister and opened our eyes a lot. While grieving we wrote our first ever song titled ‘Afterthoughts’ and ever since that day it’s been the craziest journey. - Paul

2) How do you divide the tasks: who writes the music and who writes the lyrics?

Usually I come up with a skeleton idea of a song and I show it to Steph and we bring it to life together. Me and my sister grew up loving the same bands so when we started writing music together we immediately had that connection where we both knew exactly what type of music we wanted to create so luckily we are always on the same page. - Paul

3) They define you musically as an emo rock band. I am from the 'old school'; in the seventies and eighties there weren't similar genres. So I ask you, what is the strongest part of your sound: the emo part, which is more introspective, or the rock part, which is more overwhelming?

We think every element is the strongest and is important. We describe ourselves as “Irish emo” as it separates us from every other band and with those two simple words it tells you exactly what you’re getting with our music. We’re very proud to be Irish so we do everything to incorporate our Irish heritage into our music. We grew up in a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and lakes so we love to bring that imagery into our lyrics. - Paul

4) I listened carefully to your album (which will be reviewed on this website shortly) and I was impressed. Great arrangements and plenty of melody, with excellent guitar work always present. Do you agree?

Thank you so much! We poured our blood, sweat and tears into this album and we’re so excited for everyone to finally hear it. - Steph

5) You said that the title (and therefore the entire album) is a broad allegory for the stages of trauma and someone's inner struggle to find a resolution. Okay... can you explain to me what you mean and how this thought is reflected in your lyrics?

Severed Heart City stands as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there’s always a path forward. We’ve been through so many traumatic events in our lives like so many others and these songs tell our story and how there’s always hope. - Paul

6) you also said: Our band was formed after the suicide of our uncle and since then we have been on an intense journey to achieve some of our biggest dreams, only to see everything taken away from us. I'm sorry for what happened... and I would like to ask you, if you want, to tell us where you found the strength to move on... still managing to create great albums like this last one…

I’ve always been a very positive person so I always try to find the light in the darkest of situations. Writing has always been so therapeutic for me so it helps me get rid of poisonous thoughts and feelings. - Paul

7) Speaking instead about influences, which bands have influenced you the most and which groups did you grow up with and still appreciate today?

We grew up being inspired by the classic bands of the scene such as My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, Thrice, Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World. - Steph

But we also love post-rock bands such as Caspian, Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros. - Paul

8) Talking about emo rock; how is this music scene in Ireland? Are there other good bands that you appreciate?

Ireland has some great emo/pop-punk/alt artists such as Crim, Light Grey and Layen_ so everyone should definitely give them a listen! - Paul

9) A particular question. Could you identify yourselves as artists with the help of just one adjective and explain why?

“Emo” and it explains itself! - Paul

10) Perfect, the last question is to know if and when you will be coming to play live in Italy…

We’re working on it! We’ve only been on holiday in Italy when we were younger and it’s such a beautiful country so we’re so excited to play for our Italian fans for the first time. Hopefully we’ll see you there! - Steph
