*) "Hear Me Out!"

Grazie mille!

********************

Hello guys, I am Roby Comanducci, the manager and founder of Cathouse Italy, a hard'n'roll project born in 1997. I wanted to do this interview because as soon as I heard your single, I was very impressed by your energy.

*) I know you are preparing your debut album, so the first question is very simple: tell us a little about yourselves, so that Italian rockers can get to know you.... how did you come together and how was the band formed?

It all started with me (Leo) and my younger brother Sam (I’m 18 and he’s 16 now) and we’ve always shared a love for metal and hard rock. One day, kind of as a joke, we said, “Hey, we should start a band.” So we asked our longtime friend John, (who was only 14 then) to plays drums, if he wanted in and he didn’t need any convincing at all. The only problem was, we didn’t know any singers... so I just decided to do it myself. But we were still missing one thing: a bassist. We honestly had no idea who even played bass. Eventually, I talked to a guy named Alvin he is 18 like me, and while he didn’t play bass, he was a guitarist. At that point, it didn’t really matter we just hoped he’d be a fast learner (and he was!). After a bit of turbulence, that lineup became what we now call WASTED WIZARDS!

*) I know that two of you are the sons of Erik Mårtensson, from the legendary Swedish band Eclipse. How much has Erik contributed to developing and supporting your desire to start a band?  Erik’s support has been crucial to everything we’ve done.

Without him, we probably wouldn’t even be a band today. He’s helped us work through disagreements, recording our music, diffrent problems you encounter as a band and so much more. He’s been there every step of the way and still is!

*) "Hear Me Out!" is a very fast up tempo, a concentrate of energy and an excellent chorus line. I assume, therefore, that the debut album identifies a lot with this song... in terms of style, I mean...

Yeah, the album leans heavily into that modern hard rock/sleaze sound — but we draw from a lot of influences, so there’ll definitely be more than just fast-paced rock. You might even hear a ballad or two...

*) In you I have felt a mix between the '80s - Ratt, Roxx Gang - and other sounds like Van Halen but with a more modern twist that makes me think of Crazy Lixx or Crashdiet, all with your distinct originality. What do you say about that?

That’s a pretty spot on description of our influences! If I had to add a few more names, I’d say Extreme, The Cruel Intentions, and FM-84. But that’s just me the other guys definitely have their own set of bands that inspire them.

*) In your country, I know that the street/glam/sleaze scene is doing very well. Do you consider yourselves part of this musical genre or do you not like the 'labels'?  I love glam and sleaze, but I wouldn’t say we’re purely that. We’ve got a lot of different ideas and influences, and we don’t want to limit ourselves to one subgenre.

*) When writing songs, what do you give more importance to: the music or the lyrics? Or... what comes first... does the song come from the lyrics or from the riffs and the music?
Definitely the music. Honestly, some of our lyrics are kind of terrible especially in our first song “Gates of Hell,” which is hilariously bad when you read it now. But we’re working on that. For us, the emotion and meaning of a song often come more from the melody than the words kind of like how classical music can be deeply emotional without saying anything at all.

*) I am an 'old rocker' from the 80s when everyone was curling their hair. I wanted to understand if, from your point of view, the look still has strong importance for bands that play rock'n'roll?

It really depends on the genre, but for us, image is definitely important it helps people notice us. If we look like every other average hard rock band, people will assume we are average. That said, looks can only take you so far, so we try not to get too caught up in it.

*) As you know, rock'n'roll is experiencing ups and downs, often 'suffocated' by more 'trendy' genres like crossover, alternative, and death/black metal. What do you think about it? Do you believe a new era of glam metal could return? It is certainly a more followed sector for you given the numerous bands that are emerging...

I don’t think we’ll ever see another golden era of glam, unfortunately. But there is a small but passionate underground scene online that lives and breathes glam/sleaze. So who knows? Maybe one day! That’s also why we don’t label ourselves as a straight-up glam band — it can turn people off before they even give us a chance.

*) for the last question.... while waiting for the new album, how are you planning your future?

Ohhh, there’s a lot we can’t talk about yet! But right now, we’re focused on playing as many live shows as possible. We’re also doing the whole TikTok and Instagram thing to promote the music we’ve already released. And we’re planning a proper music video for our next single too! The biggest thing on the horizon is that we’re booked to play a major festival in the UK, it’ll be our first-ever show outside of Sweden!

*) Okay guys, I wish you all the best and I can't wait to review your first full-length album!

Thank you so much!
